Cornel West Fails to Qualify in Florida

The Florida deadline for parties to certify their nominees has passed.  The Natural Law Party, which is ballot-qualified, had nominated him in Florida.  However, when the party submitted its presidential elector candidates to the state, it neglected to include the voter registration number of each of the elector candidates, and it is too late to fix the omission.

Cornel West Fails to Qualify in Florida — 24 Comments

  1. Did this guy really expect things to work out any differently than the way they’re shaping up now when he announced?

  2. Wow. Bad look for the Natural Law party (in Florida at least). I guess Dr. West assumed that that party would successfully qualify him … and to be fair, that’s a reasonable assumption.

  3. Did Reform also mess up? I don’t see Kennedy on the list of qualified candidates either.

  4. Well, I mean, Dr. West made this bed for himself. He’s going to wind up with less ballot access and less votes than Jill Stein. He’d have been better served sticking it out with the Green Party and running as their candidate. But, because of his ego, his whole campaign is one big mess.

  5. Message for Jushua Fauvier:
Cornel West probably decided to withdraw his candidacy for the Green Party because he felt there was no guarantee he would win the primary which is held very late in August. The person who had run as President in 2020 (Howard) for GP was threatening to run in 2024 as well. If that had been the case it would have been a tight contest as he was the cofounder of the Green Party.

Jesse Ventura also contemplated running in 2016 but also got cold feet and dropped out. He was nominated by the Green Party of Alaska in 2020 even though he was not running in that election lol.

  6. AZ: no. That would be impossible. Since Trump is way more commie as well as way more fascist than the awesome Kamala Harris!

  7. AZ: also no. Tens would also probably be too generous. As far as multiple edits? Single digit number.

  8. Can’t.the Florida Secretary of State’s office just look up each person to see if they are registered to vote?

This seems like a stupid requirement to me.

  9. The Natural Law people were probably too busy being high or mediating to get the information in.

  10. Why does one have to be register to vote in Florida to run for an presidrntial elector off8c3 of one day?

It is not require under the U S Constitution to be registered to vote.
If you are not registered one would not have a number.

  11. “neglected to include the voter registration number of each of the elector candidates”

Sloppy, unprofessional and expensive too. With allies like the NLP, who needs enemies trying to keep you off the ballot.

  12. @Thomas Fischbeck
Good question. Kennedy indeed won’t be on the ballot in Florida, though I’m not certain as to why.
One rumor has it that the Reform Party ditched him after he dropped out in swing states, but the party’s official stance denies this: https://x.com/ReformParty/status/1827372957095678146
Another rumor has it that Kennedy did indeed request to be removed from the ballot in Florida, implying he believes it is a battleground state, which seems strange.

  13. @Nuña

10+1 states RKFJR off the ballot
    Texas
    Arizona
    Pennsylvania
    Florida
    Georgia
    North Carolina
    Ohio
South Carolina (dropped by Alliance Party)
    Wisconsin?
    Nevada?
    Michigan?

? doesn’t seem that the state allowed him to withdraw

  14. Not only did NLP leave off the voter registration numbers, they originally didn’t submit the names at all. Furthermore, many of the names they submitted had no city listed with the address, wrong addresses, and several of the proposed electors were not registered with the NLP (a state requirement).

  15. Why is this site censoring comments which point out that wendt has nothing to do with the maharishi, that he has a long history of party and ideology hopping, or his actual job, personal problems, and likely actual motivations?

This censorship will be exposed and explored, in detail and repeatedly, at other sites if need be, if it continues. If your motive is to protect Mr Wendt from the truth because he’s your friend, you’ll achieve the exact opposite.

Everything I’ve said about him which you keep erasing is a matter of public record and has been mentioned numerous times in the past in discussions elsewhere and in your own past archives for that matter. It can be dug up, and posted repeatedly all over the place, if you persist in this unconscionable censorship of the truth about this intentionally public person.

  16. BAN isn’t all that censorious, in my experience. Odds are that you included one or more links to domains which have not yet been white-listed, resulting in your comment pending manual review.

Did you by any chance get a banner saying that your post was awaiting moderation?

Alternatively, did you perhaps attempt to post your comment a second time and then get a message saying that your post was a duplicate, despite your post not showing up the first time?

If neither, you could try posting a copy of your comment in IPR’s monthly open thread. Though if it contains something that is causing it to actually get censored here, then it might also get censored there for the same reason.

  17. Oops, I spoke to soon: you already found your way to IPR’s open thread.

Did you try posting there what you tried to post here?

  18. At this time, nothing else has been removed here that I’ve noted, but the throwaway fake email address used to feed wordpress nosiness remains banned at BAN.
