Oklahoma residents who favor a top-two system will try to get their initiative on the ballot for 2026. See this story. They contradict established word usage by referring to their initiative as an “open primary”. For fity years, political science textbooks and U.S. Supreme Court opinions have defined an “open primary” to be a system in which parties have their own primary ballots and their own nominees, but any voter is free to choose any party’s primary ballot.

    WASHINGTON − A federal appeals court cleared the way Thursday for Attorney General Merrick Garland to release special counsel Jack Smith’s report about President-elect Donald Trump’s alleged efforts to steal the 2020 election, but the timing remains uncertain.

    The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused an emergency request from Trump’s co-defendants to block the report.
