Professor Michael C. Munger, Libertarian Party Leader in North Carolina, Files Amicus Curiae Brief in U.S. Supreme Court Tariff Case

On September 8, North Carolina Political Science and Economics Professor Michael C. Munger and other individuals and groups filed an amicus curiae brief in the U.S.Supreme Court in Trump v V.O.S. Selections, 25-250. See it here. Munger was the 2008 Libertarian Party nominee for Governor of North Carolina, and he polled the needed 2% of the vote to give the party ongoing ballot status for the first time. He has also been a Libertarian nominee for North Carolina legislature as recently as 2022.

Trump v V.O.S. Selections is the high-profile case over whether the president can determine tariffs without an act of congress. So far the only other amicus is filed by twelve states, on the side of V.O.S. The case will be argued in the first week of November 2025. UPDATE: the Court has consolidated this case with Learning Resources v Trump, 24-1287, a case that had been filed in June 2025 in the U.S. Supreme Court on the same subject.
