The Libertarian Party is the only minor party currently recognized by the State of Ohio and, accordingly, must nominate its 2026 General Election candidates by Primary on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Ohio voters may vote in either the Democratic, Republican or Libertarian Primary; it is each voter’s choice.
The LP of Ohio must earn 3% of the vote for Governor to retain ballot status after November 2026. Doing so would continue its ballot access in Ohio through the 2030 General Election.

Yes, it’s the Bee, but the only thing that’s remotely unrealistic there is that there is an actual Libertarian politician with staff on Capitol Hill. The closest they ever came is Justin Amash, and he was elected as a Republican, and Ron Paul, who was also always elected as a Republican. You might also count Bob Barr, also always elected as a Republican. Paul and Barr ran non-viable campaigns for President as Libertarians, and Amash switched to Libertarian during the tail end of his last term in Congress.
So, obviously, it makes way more sense for libertarians who actually have any to vote Republican!
