On May 24, the Libertarian Party national convention, meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, elected Evan McMahon as the new national party chair. He has been the state chair of the Indiana Libertarian Party.

  60. This year’s Libertarian Party national convention saw the faltering attempt to push the LP in a more right-wing direction further lose steam as those advocating the party stay true to libertarianism successfully elected a leadership reflecting this agenda.

    The authoritarian dress code silliness was dead on arrival. It was widely seen as grandstanding by a few of the right-wing sympathizers on the outgoing Libertarian National Committee, whose hypocritical calls for “professionalism” were undermined by their own unprofessional conduct during this term of engaging in and/or tolerating wild and slanderous charges, namecalling, and other unprofessional behavior while railing against the committee’s more reasonable majority.

    Libertarians across the country and the world who actually care about freedom can celebrate the fact that a the bigotry of a small group of individuals who took over the party’s New Hampshire state affiliate will no longer carry the imprimature of being associated with the Libertarian Party of the United States.

    One hothead from the group running the former New Hampshire affiliate did cause an ruckus when he punched a woman in the face who he and other group members accused of “stealing” literature from the group’s information table, despite the same literature having been widely distributed in the convention hall for delegates to read. Following the assault, the assailant was arrested by government police.

  63. The Libertarian Party exists to advocate and advance libertarianism, not conservatism. The Constitution Party exists for those who want a right-wing alternative party.

    Libertarians understand that nonconformity and diversity at our gatherings are healthy manifestations of freedom.

    It’s also hard to take seriously the griping of anonymous online trolls who attack people for their personal appearances.

  65. FYI, , the current LNC Judicial Committee is not valid because the 2 convention elected members lack quorum. A 7 seat committee needs 4 people to have quorum, and I think LNC by-laws indicate that the Judicial Committee needs 5 people to have quorum. The judicial committee can’t make appointments or do anything else without quorum. Since 2 people lack quorum the 5 people thet appointed to the judicial committee are all invalid appointments, so those 5 seats should still be considered to be vacant.

  66. Allegedly the woman took a stack of literature from the New Hampshire table and threw it in a trash can. Allegedly she attempted to do this again which led to the argument and her getting slapped. The guy who slapped her was in the wrong because the threat level did not rise to the level where physical violence was necessary, but if it is true that she threw a stack of there literature in a garbage can, and I have been told that there is video of this, she was not innocent either.
