Television station WTTW is sponsoring a gubernatorial debate. See this story. Three candidates are on the ballot, including independent Collin Corbett. The station originally excluded Corbett from the debate on the grounds that he is not the nominee of a qualified party. But that would have been illegal; broadcast sponsors are required to have objective criteria. When the station realized this, it changed the rules and said anyone at 15% in the polls may attend. There have been no gubernatorial polls for this race so far.
The story implies that Illinois has never had a televised gubernatorial debate that included a candidate other than the Democratic or Republican nominees. But in 2010, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale sponsored a televised debate and the Green Party nominee, Richard Whitney, was included. That debate was held on October 14, 2010.

And it was that debate in Carbondale that eventually led to me joining the Green Party. Which is why the two ruling parties and their biased debate Officials normally do everything they can to keep minor party and Independent candidates out of the debates, for fear of normalizing the idea of electoral opposition to the two party state.
