On June 22, India Walton won the Democratic primary for Mayor of Buffalo, New York. She defeated the incumbent Mayor, Byron Brown. She is a member of Democratic Socialists of America and was endorsed by that organization. Here is her website.
The First Circuit will hear We the People v Bellows, 21-1149, on Tuesday, July 27. This is the lawsuit against Maine’s ban on out-of-state circulators for initiative petitions. The ban also says circulators must be registered voters. The U.S. District Court had struck down the law.

The California National Party believes that California should secede from the United States. Its chair, Michael Loebs, intends to file to run for Governor in the upcoming recall gubernatorial election. See this story.
Fifteen Governors have signed a letter to the U.S. Census Bureau, saying the Bureau must release data needed for redistricting sooner than August. The Census Bureau has promised the data by mid-August. See this story.
One of the signers is Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Texas has a 2022 primary in March. In the past Texas has agreed to a later primary date, and there seems to be no reason why Texas shouldn’t move its primary to a later date than March. Illinois, which usually has a primary in March, has moved its 2022 primary to June.
