New Hampshire Libertarian Party Will Administer its own Presidential Primary

Next year, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire will hold its own presidential primary. All party members will be postally mailed a ballot, with a return envelope for which the postage has been pre-paid. Every voter who returns the ballot will then get a postcard, acknowledging that the ballot has been received and counted. The ballots will be due by the date of the party’s state convention, which is January 11, 2020.

The New Hampshire Libertarian Party is not ballot-qualified. When it was ballot-qualified, in 1992 and 1996, it used the government-administered presidential primary.

CNN Announces Which Democrats Will Debate on July 30, and Which on July 31

On the evening of July 18, CNN announced the results of its random selection of Democratic presidential candidates. See this story, which lists who will debate on July 30, and who will debate on July 31.

Each night will have ten debaters. July 30: Bennet, Biden, Booker, Castro, de Blasio, Gabbard, Gillibrand, Harris, Inslee, and Yang.

July 31: Bullock, Bittigieg, Delaney, Hickenlooper, Klobuchar, O’Rourke, Ryan, Sanders, Warren, and Williamson.

Arizona Voters Who Want a Special U.S. Senate Election Appeal to the Ninth Circuit

Earlier this month, the Arizona voters who want a special election for U.S. Senate earlier than November 2020 filed an appeal in the Ninth Circuit. Tedards v Ducey, 19-16308. The case concerns the vacancy in John McCain’s Senate seat. McCain died in August 2018 and the Governor filled his seat by appointment. The voters argue that there should be a special election to fill that seat, given the lengthy period of time between McCain’s death and November 2020. The U.S. District Court ruled in favor of the state.
