Georgia Secretary of State Chooses March 24 for Presidential Primary

On June 19, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger chose March 24 as the date for the 2020 presidential primaries.  Georgia law lets the Secretary of State choose the date.  The choice means that Georgia is the only state with a primary on that date, so that will give the state’s primary added attention.  Thanks to Josh Putnam for this news.

Maine Bill for a Presidential Primary is Signed

On June 20, Maine Governor Janet Mills signed LD 1626, which sets up presidential primaries in Maine.  They do not involve ranked choice voting.  The primary is voluntary and parties must decide whether to use them.  Parties also must decide whether or not to let independents vote in their presidential primaries.  Thanks to Josh Putnam for this news.
