Illinois County Legislator Changes Parties from Republican to Libertarian

On December 5, Jim Byrne told the press that he has left the Republican Party and joined the Libertarian Party. He is an elected County Board member for Kankakee County, Illinois. The county has partisan elections for County Board. The board now has 21 Republicans, 6 Democrats, and one Libertarian.

He was just re-elected as a Republican a month ago, and has a four-year term.

Member of Green Party Again Wins Presidency of Austria

On Sunday, December 4, Austria held a presidential election. The same election had been held in May 2016 but the results were cancelled because of voting irregularities with postal ballots. However, the new election had the same result as the first election. Alexnaider Van Der Bellen, a member of the Green Party, and formerly chair of the party, was elected. See this story.
