As reported already, last week a New York state court decision ruled that the Women’s Equality Party has no legitimate officers and therefore no bylaws. As a result, some of the party’s nominees are now being challenged. For example, see this story.
John Pickerill is the chairman of the Montgomery County, Indiana, Republican Party. In this op-ed in the Journal Register of Crawfordsville, he condemns Indiana election laws that give special powers to the two largest political parties. He could have mentioned the straight-ticket device, and the law that gives the two major parties the top spots on the ballot, and the ballot access laws, but he didn’t mention those points.
Montgomery County is in west central Indiana; Crawfordsville is the county seat. The county has a population of 38,124.
Canada is holding a national election on October 19. Although the Green Party leader, Elizabeth May, has been included in some televised debates, she has been or will be excluded in certain other debates. According to this story, the Green Party has filed an administrative complaint, charging that the exclusion violates Canadian campaign laws. See this story for more detail.
The Green Party is one of four Canadian parties that has candidates for House of Commons in a majority of the districts. The other three such parties are being included in all debates.

On September 20 this poll for the upcoming Canadian election was released. The three major parties are still in a statistical 3-way tie, with the Green Party at 5%. The election will be October 19.
