Every year, the Independent Voter Project sponsors meetings in Hawaii for state legislators from certain states. In the past the event was only for California legislators, but this year legislators from three states are invited. The Independent Voter Project was one of the groups that intervened in various lawsuits that concerning the California top-two system. See this story about this year’s conference. Legislators receive free air travel and free rooms at the hotel, but some legislators who attend pay their own way.

Wang Zheng, a 48-year-old woman, has founded a new party for China. See this story. The name of the party is Zhi Xian Party, which seems to be translated as “The Constitution is the Supreme Authority”. The party will advocate freedom of assembly and free elections. The existing Constitution says that the Communist Party is entitled to run the country, and the new party says it does not challenge that part of the Constitution. Thanks to Thomas Jones for the link.
