On July 26, the North Carolina Democratic Party filed a state lawsuit to remove the We the People Party from the ballot. The lawsuit says that “We the People” is a “sham” political party. This ignores the fact that it has candidates for state senate and county office as well as president. The lawsuit also says that some voters say they were misled about the purpose of the petition. On July 26, the Nevada Secretary of State determined that the Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. independent petition has enough valid signatures. See this story.
On July 26, a New Jersey state trial court heard arguments in Salmon v Kennedy, a challenge to the placement of Kennedy on the ballot as an independent presidential candidate. See this story. A decision is expected on Monday, July 29.
Some Michigan groups have examined the Cornel West independent petition and they say some of the signatures appear to be forged. See this story. The requirement is 12,000 and West submitted over 27,000.
On July 26, the Nebraska Secretary of State certified Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., for the ballot as an independent candidate. The Secretary of State said the Democratic Party’s challenge to his candidacy has no merit. The party had claimed that Kennedy could not be an independent candidate in some states because he is a minor party in other states. See this story.
