State of Indiana Files Reply Brief with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals re: Ballot Access Litigation

On February 7, 2024, the State of Indiana filed its Reply Brief with the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit regarding the Indiana Green Party and Libertarian Party of Indiana’s ongoing litigation over the Hoosier State’s ballot access laws.

State of Texas Files Reply Brief in Multiparty Ballot Access Litigation Against The Lone Star State

On February 1, 2024, the State of Texas filed its reply brief to the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in the ongoing litigation concerning that state’s ballot access laws.

Lawsuit Filed Against Utah Restrictions on Initiative Petitioning

On February 8, a federal lawsuit was filed against several Utah laws that make it difficult to qualify initiatives. Are You Listening Yet PAC v Henderson, 2:24cv-104. Among other things, the lawsuit challenges the ban on out-of-state circulators, and the February 15 petiition deadline. The plaintiffs have been circulating an initiative relating to the Utah state flag, and they are asking for injunctive relief to help them qualify that initiative for this year’s ballot. Pakistan National Assembly Election

On February 8, Pakistan held an election for National Assembly. The party that had won the 2018 election, PTI, had been removed from the 2024 election ballot for a technical violation of election laws. Therefore, PTI ran its nominees as independent candidates. Although not all votes have been counted, it appears that PTI’s candidates, running as independents, outpolled all of the other parties. Independents won at least 96 of the 237 seats.
