According to this article, the initiative petition for ranked-choice voting in Maine already has over half the signatures needed. The 36,000 signatures in hand were mostly collected at the polls on November 4, so their validity rate will be very high.

Why don’t they just use paper ballots like are used in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Australia?
Now having read the article, I can see the Ranked Choice is similar to the Instant Runoff.
I would have no problem with Ranked Choice in all General Elections, provided that 3rd party and Independent candidates can obtain ballot position just like candidates of the major parties – either by filing fee or petitions requiring no more signatures than equal to 1% of the vote cast at the last statewide election for the candidate receiving the least number of votes.
This would satisfy those who don’t want plurality elected public officials, and 3rd parties and Independents who are serious about getting on the ballot.
And 3rd parties should be allowed to hold their own Primaries in lieu of petitioning.
