Poll Shows New York Proposal to Toughen Ballot Access is Very Unpopular

Public Policy Polling has taken a poll in New York state on whether the state should make it more difficult for parties to be ballot-qualified.  The results are that 64% are opposed; 25% are in favor; and 10% are undecided.  See this story.

The proposal, pushed by some leaders of the Democratic Party, would increase the number of votes for a group to be a qualified party, from 50,000 votes for Governor, to 150,000.

Poll Shows New York Proposal to Toughen Ballot Access is Very Unpopular — 10 Comments

  1. ANY genius polls about —

PR – to have REAL Democracy to END ANTI-Democracy minority rule gerrymander regimes

NONPARTISAN AppV – to END partisan selective enforcement of partisan laws

TOTSOP – to END mixed legis/exec/judic TYRANT actions ???

IE – to END the brain dead suicidal current *politics* road with its ABSOLUTE TOTAL MONARCH LAWLESS DEVIL KILLER / ENSLAVER TYRANTS.

  2. My guess is that the commission will listen to Cuomo and the Dem Establishment instead of the will of the majority of people. Tough and unfair times are ahead for third parties in NY, which is a shame because NY was one of the fairer states for ballot access (although still harsh compared to countries like Canada).

  3. The Republicans appear to argue that the commission is an unconstitutional delegation of legislative authority. The Conservatives appear to agree though, they are particularly concerned that a change in the fusion law would hurt them. Working Families appears to support public funding, but not changes to fusion.

  4. @DR,

The poll was sponsored by a group advocating for poblic financing, and leftward inclined.

PPP would do a poll for you and your issues, if you asked nicely, used complete sentences, and wrote them a check.

  5. JR-

How many now zillion election reform / civil rights factions with zillions of lobby dollars — from the usual suspect persons/groups ???

IE left v right gerrymander OLIGARCH gangs — with figurehead monarch hacks.

  6. Also- of course –

How many folks (a) NOW avoid pollsters – as being spies for the regime or (b) give FALSE answers to be cute morons or *politically correct* ???

  7. @DR,

I think it is about 10% of phone-call polls are completed, even less with mobile phones. There is quite likely to be a self-selection bias. If 8% of Republicans respond, but 12% Democrats, you will have a very biased poll.

A lot of polls are actually just trying to identify who will support a candidate. It is recognized that you will not vote for the Repub Dem candidate, so it is a waste of time to try to convince you, particularly if it makes you more likely to vote. But the Demo Rep party will make sure you vote.

Issue-oriented polls likely used leading questions. The group paying for this poll just wanted to influence opinion by the press release.

  8. How much attention paid to New Age polls — seconds, minutes at most ???

John Doe *surged* in the MORON media poll today !!!! — with Mary Roe close behind.

    —-
How about REAL elections every 6 months or less ???

GET rid of tyrants and morons in public offices early and often.

History note – some of the early States DID have elections each 6 months – MAY/NOV elections.

Now many State legis party robot hacks are chosen for 4 years [due to Prez terms] — trying for 6 years due to USA Senator terms

    — plotting to stay in POWER for lifetimes – and then have a relative take POWER — aka hereditary oligarchs — from the STONE/DARK ages.
