Party for Socialism & Liberation Alters its Vice-Presidential Nominee — 8 Comments

  1. What about the states that don’t allow for substitution, like New Hampshire?

  2. Some states need the vice-presidential candidate to sign ballot access and write-in registration paperwork. I wonder if his health situation makes it impossible for him to keep track of all that. On the other hand, withdrawing could just be a publicity strategy for his campaign for compassionate release.

  3. Not to be crass, but how would health cause him to make this decision? He can’t campaign anyways. He is in prison. What’s the difference?

  4. I think that was the official reason. His resignation happened after Sunil Freeman was nominated by the party of Peace and Freedom officially nominated Sunil Freeman as the VP along Gloria de Riva instead of him. Perhaps in order to have more unity among the parties that nominated de Riva, it was decided to replace Leonard Peltier with Sunil and Leonard was able to say that he was the one who decided to quit.

  5. The Peace & Freedom Party should be the entity that’s wagging the tail here versus the PSL being the tail wagging the dog. 85% of the La Riva ticket’s 2016 vote was down to the Peace & Freedom Party ballot line.

  6. There are still health issues that could crop up even while incarcerated. Such as ability to conduct interviews via prison phone, letter or visitation if the latter is allowed; ability to publish articles sent by letter; ability to sign documents required by the campaign.
