Kevin Zeese to be Maryland Green Nominee for US Senate

Kevin Zeese has been running for the U.S. Senate in Maryland for approximately six months, with the likely or certain endorsement of three different minor parties (Populist, Green and Libertarian). All three of those parties are on the Maryland ballot. However, Maryland law requires him to choose just one of them, and he has recently chosen “Green” for his ballot label. Zeese was an active supporter of Ralph Nader in 2004 and helped to create the Populist Party in Maryland (the Populist Party was formed largely as a vehicle for Nader’s candidacy, since the ballot access requirements are easier for new parties in Maryland than they are for independent candidates). Zeese’s chief issue is opposition to having the U.S. military in Iraq.

  1. Warning, warning, opportunity with the Sacramento Bee. Today’s (Sunday, May 21st, 2006) http://www.sacbee.com front page story is the growing number of Non Democrat and Non Republican voters.
The Sacramento Bee is ‘blogging’ the story, is accepting electronic comments! We (Don Lake, Paul Snyder, Tish Firmiss, John Coffey) were there first, but my (Don Lake) usual ‘veterans killer(s)’ may not survive the moderator. Give a second look (to see if Citizens For A Better Veterans Home/ ‘calvets’ got posted) and give Richard Winger a written notice AND FREE ADVERTISEMENT if they bounced our caustic comments on Schwartzen Faker and the ballot process(es)!

  2. Maryland Corruption 1, Freedom of Association 0.

The Maryland Green Party is currently caucusing and will announce the statewide results at its June 3 Assembly. I attended my caucus recently where my vote was by private ballot. Kevin Zeese is not universally supported and a write-in or, more possibly, None of the Above could beat him for the Green nomination. I don’t have any particular information on how Zeese is doing in the caucuses.
