Connecticut Democratic Registration Increase

Between May 1 and August 7, Democratic registration in Connecticut increased by 28,886 voters. There were 14,506 voters who changed from “independent” to “Democratic”, plus 14,380 newly registered voters who registered as Democrats. That’s an increase of almost 5% in the number of Democrats, motivated by the August 8 primary contest for U.S. Senate.

  1. In Connecticut, a registered party member who wants to vote in another party’s primary must change his registration no later than 90 days before the primary.

    How many voters changed their registrations from other parties to Democratic?

  2. Question: Didn’t Joe Lieberman have to re-register as an Independent in order to run as a candidate on the Independent ballot in November? How can he call himself a Democratic Independent? Isn’t that an oxymoron?
