Seven Minor Party Legislators Elected

Six Vermont Progressives were elected to the Vermont legislature, and Rick Jore of the Constitution Party was elected in Montana. This is the first time the Constitution Party has ever elected a state legislator.

The Green Party’s legislator in Maine, John Eder, was defeated for re-election.

Thanks to Eric Prindle for the info on the Vermont Progressives.

Seven Minor Party Legislators Elected — 5 Comments

  1. It looks like the Progressives took six in Vermont; they lost one but gained one elsewhere.

In Maine, the local newspaper and city elections office are giving radically different totals for some of the Portland State House candidates. The Greens are losing in all cases, but closer according to some results than others.

  2. Apparently 3rd party candidates can in fact win UNLESS they’re Libertarians. Still, a few independent voices can and will shake things up a little bit.

  3. And the animal mascot of the Green Mountain Progressives? The Moose!

All Anti Democans and Anti Republicrats need to consider the Moose and Teddy Roosevelt and California Governor [the Direct Democracy guru almost a century ago] Hiram W. Johnson and the Theodore Bear plush toy and the Bull Moose plush toy. This would solidify the public immage & fund raising of the anti establishment ‘third way’!

  4. Libertarians HAVE won, in the past.
And they still COULD win, in the future.
Alas, it is the very nature of libertarians and Libertarians to be hard to direct.
It has been said many, many times that leading a Libertarian campaign is like herding cats.
That new-party socialists and collectivists can win elections is a mixed blessing: Their policies bode ill, but their victories bode well, in that those victories show people CAN break the pattern and vote for honest and principled candidates in other than the two old parties.

  5. Jore was an elected Republican before he ran on the CP ticket. Jore lost two races before this win. In 2004 his race was taken to the Montana Supreme Court where they invalidated one vote giving the win to the Democrats. Perhaps this was payback to the Democrats. There was no Republican in the race.
