Incoming Ohio Secretary of State Believed to Be Friendly Toward Minor Parties

It seems likely that the incoming Ohio Secretary of State favors liberalizing the Ohio ballot access law. There is reason to believe that she will not appeal the September 2006 decision of the 6th circuit that held Ohio’s law unconstitutional.

  1. She campaigned on a platform of ending Blackwell’s partisanship, and that’s why I voted for her.

  2. Hi Richard,
Tne new Secretary of State, a bipartisan politician, as you indicated, has the option to appeal the 6th Circuit decision. This SOS and the Ohio legislature can resist the court decision, and have no real result come from the decision for years. The OH Supreme Court found the way K-12 schools in OH are funded to be unequal and unconstitutional, 10 years ago. School funding goes on unchanged. No change in sight.

I know people who voted for Brunner. She makes nice sounds of what you want to hear. But her lips are moving and it seems to me that is when bipartisan politicians are known to lie.

Is there a statute of limitations on appeals to a Federal court decision? Can the next secretary of state appeal, or can the OH legislation pass a minimal law as a fix and that law would stand until challenged? How long can that process last with the process in the control of a two-party bipartisan dictatorship?

I fear the process may last beyond the lifetime of my son and my grandchildren.

If there is an alternative way to wrest power from the Ds and Rs we need to use that alternative.

We need an intentional non-partisan independent mass political movement. We need something out of the box means to force change. It seems to me the Internet offers an opportunity. Not to talk, but to act for ballot access in a populist way.

For instance, appropriate web pages for participation in every precinct in every state. A multitude of web page managers:

to give everyone a substantial role in the voter revolution. There is a PDF of the IVA Electronic Ene User License Agreement in the first paragraph of instructions for publishing your IVA web pages.
Cost free. Yes there is a free lunch of sorts.

Where there is a will there is a way. Court processes are not the only alternative.
