Peace & Freedom Presidential Debate

The California Peace & Freedom Party will host a presidential candidate debate. All seven candidates in the party’s presidential primary are invited. It will be in San Francisco, Saturday, January 12, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., at the Brava Theater, 2781 24th St., upstairs.

The seven presidential candidates on the PFP primary ballot are: Stewart Alexander, John Crockford, Stanley Hetz, Gloria LaRiva, Cynthia McKinney, Brian Moore, and Ralph Nader. Since Nader has not declared yet that he is running for president, it seems unlikely that he will attend.

  1. Isn’t Stewart Alexander Brian Moore’s Socialist Party running mate? Why would they be running against each other in the PFP primary?

I agree about Nader and the PFP in 2004, but the PFP is essentially a socialist party that is rather more radical than the Green Party. My understanding based on what someone at the PFP told me awhile back is that they nominated Leonard Peltier to make a statement about the things they want to focus on, which are different than the things most Greens seem to want to focus on. The more I learn about what the PFP stands for & emphasizes, the more I understand why PFP activists aren’t that interested in Nader.

Not that I would object if they nominated him, though. 🙂

  2. Brian Moore wishes that Stewart Alexander would have removed his name from the PFP primary ballot, but Alexander says it will help the Socialist ticket to have both names on that ballot. His theory is that, morally speaking, the Moore vote and the Alexander vote should be added together. The decision will be made by the PFP state central committee in August. The primary is just a beauty contest.

  3. David,

Some of us (Peace and Freedom Party activists) are very interested in having Mr. Ralph Nader as our presidential nominee. He is the person who I will be voting for in the February 5th, PFP-CA Primary Election.
