New Hampshire Recount Shows Little Change So Far

The Republican presidential primary vote in New Hampshire is being recounted statewide, and the Democratic New Hampshire vote is being recounted in New Hampshire’s two most populous counties. Although the work isn’t finished yet, partial results have been reported in this newspaper story. It appears there is very little change between the recount results so far, and the original count.

  1. For a different view of the same data, see the Brad Blog:

    Issues:
    * Poor chain-of-custody practices, physically damaged and broken boxes, seals that are resealable so there is little assurance that they were not tampered with.
    * Lack of a mandatory statistically valid audit against paper ballots. Without these audits 80% of ballots would not have been counted save by voting machines.

  2. According to a story at: http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/home/Frontpage/2008/01/22/02148.html

An Italian newspaper is suggesting that Hilary Clinton’s victory in New Hampshire was a miracle of technology. The articles states the following:

“Il Giornale, reports that all Democratic candidates except Hillary Clinton made gains when the New Hampshire ballots were manually tabulated, while Ms. Clinton made inexplicably large gains where ballots were tabulated by computerized scanners.

“According to the report, Republican maverick candidate Ron Paul should have finished third in the Republican primary rather than fifth. Thus, it would appear that both Barack Obama and Ron Paul were the primary targets of vote-rigging operations in New Hampshire.

“Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who has earned recognition as one of the foremost authorities on election procedures, has frequently pointed out that the United States of America does not meet international criteria for electoral security.”

As America’s elections, after so many of our brave men and women have paid so dearly for our concept of liberty with their blood and fought with their limbs and their lives, slink to the same corrupt level of those in Third World nations. . .

  3. You may want to reference “this newspaper story,” which appears in the VERY SAME NEWSPAPER CITED ABOVE, the Nashua Telegraph, the next day, January 23, 2008 (See: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080123/OPINION02/994300058):

STATE’S METHOD OF COUNTING VOTES FLAWED

Our state’s election process is seriously flawed because of its dependency on proprietary and secret computer equipment to count our ballots.

The optical scanner computer equipment used in our state has been demonstrated to be easily hacked to miscount ballots. New Hampshire can restore citizen confidence in the election process through a simple, statistically valid, random sample, hand-count audit of the ballots.

This should be an automatic process done prior to certification of the results and should be done with a complete chain of custody process for all of the ballots. Any discrepancy uncovered by such an audit should result in an immediate hand recount of all the results.

We should have no faith in the integrity of our election process while we continue to depend on secret and proprietary computer software to count our ballots.

The election process is the foundation upon which our democratic institutions are built. New Hampshire should lead the way to restore ballot integrity to our Republic.

  4. BlackBoxVoting’s Bev Harris has been monitoring the recount, well monitoring isn’t exactly correct since the mandated sealed boxes have been coming in all manner of dishevelled, haggard states, couried without mandated state police oversight by “Butch and Hoppy” and once delivered to New Hampshire SOS recount headquarters stored in rooms with various other “uninventoried” items accessible by code (no armed guards) and counted in private–no public oversight. So I guess she really isn’t monitoring the recount as much as bearing witness to the misdress of the Public’s will by the Machine’s powers that be. Of Course everyone knows of this flagrant miscarriage of justice via the Controlled News Media..oh wait..no, I guess not. 🙁
