Nader Lawsuit Against Democratic National Committee Moved to Federal Court in D.C.

On March 7, the U.S. District Court in Virginia that had jurisdiction over Ralph Nader’s lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee (stemming from events in 2004) transferred the case to U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia. The case is now before U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Urbina, a Clinton appointee.

  1. A Clinton Appointee ? This doesn’t sound good. If I was Nader’s General Counsel I would get it out of that court.

  2. I disagree. President Clinton’s appointees are pretty good judges. The only US Supreme Court Justice who ever wanted to hear a Nader ballot access case was Clinton’s appointee Justice Breyer. He wanted to hear Nader’s case against Oregon.

  3. Richard wrote : “The only US Supreme Court Justice who ever wanted to hear a Nader ballot access case was Clinton’s appointee Justice Breyer.”

During the confirmation hearings for Stephen Breyer Ralph Nader was called to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. During questioning Nader described Breyer as being “Corportist to the core”. Arlen Spector responded “You make the man out to be Al Capone”. Nader responded “He’s worse than Al Capone !”. Richard, does reveal to you why Breyer was so eager to hear Nader’s case ?

  4. I trust Breyer’s ability to set aside his emotions about what Nader had said about him. The Oregon Secretary of State would have been mortified if the entire US Supreme Court had heard the Oregon Nader case. What Bradbury did was inexcusable. The publicity attending what happened in Oregon, which would have existed if the US Supreme Court had taken the case, would have been delicious.
