Seven Libertarian Presidential Candidates Qualify for Saturday Evening Debate

Seven candidates seeking the Libertarian presidential nomination have received enough support at the convention to qualify for the Saturday evening debate: Bob Barr, Mike Gravel, Steve Kubby, Michael Jingozian, George Phillies, Wayne Allyn Root, and Mary Ruwart. Candidates qualified if at least 57 delegates “voted” for them to be in the debate. Delegates only had one “vote” for this purpose.

In other Libertarian convention news, Daniel Imperato endorsed Bob Barr for the Libertarian nomination.

  1. This is the time to donate to http://www.bobbarr2008.com and make those numbers move. Please tell everyone to watch C-Span tonight. I’m hoping for a Barr/Grabel ticket it would totally do well in the election

  2. About time for Barr to debate with the other candidates. His skipping the unoffical all-inclusive debate last night, which all other candidates attended, did not go over well with several people I talked with. This goes for myself, who came to the convention torn between Barr and Ruwart, and have donated to both campaigns. Guess whose button I’m wearing now?

  3. Barr already debated in the REASON debate and has been on TV numeroud times for lengthy periods. I think we know where Bob stands. GO BARR GO

  4. Gravel won the debate.

Amazing what a gifted, clever fellow he is, when given fair time and fair shake.

I had no idea Mike Gravel was still this good.

    Amazing performance.

  5. Mike Gravel did do amazing. Loved the comment on how a sick and dumb nation cannot be free.

  6. Gravel has always been a good speaker. Watch some of the videos from his Democratic primary campaign.

  7. 573 (?) somewhere around there…the voting is tomorrow, starting CSPAN coverage at 11:30AM (don’t know what time zone)

  8. Mike Gravel made a futile attempt to become the running mate of Sen. George McGovern at the 1972 Democratic national convention.

McGovern was a radical left-winger who lost 49 states to President Nixon.

  9. I find the token idea somewhat interesting. How did the LP come up with this idea?

  10. Today is the day to donate to the winning ticket to show support and make some noise. Please donate to the winner and send emails to all major networks demanding they cover the story of the Libertarian candidate

  11. Some candidates shared tokens to increase participation.

Bob Barr gave enough tokens to Mike Gravel to get him into the debate. Mary Ruwart gave her extras to Steve Kubby. Jim Burns (who didn’t get enough to participate) gave his tokens to Christine Smith, who qualified for the nomination speech Sunday by getting 30 tokens.

  12. This is a FARCE..why run a race when you can’t win? You recon they trying to rock the boat? you betcha!

  13. One runs a race to try to reach the voters, to try to tell them, for one thing, they don’t have to settle for a lesser of two evils; one runs to try to tell voters some forgotten truths, that individuals deserve and ought to be free.
Rocking the boat is a very American tradition, one more of us ought to indulge in.

  14. The question now is: Will Barr make the same mistake as Ron Paul and Kucinich. Their only chance of getting coverage from corporate media was to launch a road show together. Barr’s only hope of getting anything but filler is to organize a road show with McKinney and maybe whoever the populist guys nominate.
