Nader Appearance Outside White House Draws Publicity

On May 23, Ralph Nader and a group of supporters rallied outside the White House. Nader called for President Bush and Vice-President Cheney to resign, and drew publicity that appeared in news outlets around the world. The Zogby Poll released on May 21 showed Nader at 4% and Bob Barr at 3%, and also showed Barack Obama leading John McCain by ten percentage points.

Nader Appearance Outside White House Draws Publicity — No Comments

  1. It is about time we have real choices and voices running for office, like Ralph Nader. He is pushing for real change, which is backed by a forty year track record of genuine action and success. We need Ralph Nader more than ever. He deserves media attention, and has a right to be included in all debates so that important issues like Single Payer, monetary reform policy, completel withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan, slashing the waseful military budget, creation of new jobs and job training, raising the minimum wage to a decent livable wage- to name just a few are seriously addressed, and solution put forward. No to Obama, Clinton and McCain.

  2. I agree but… Nader seemed really off, not sure what he wanted to say. I ended up turning the channel and I support the guy. I hope he starts utilizing Gonzalez a little more.

  3. Ralph Nader is the only candidate that has true courage to stand up to the power holders, and speak out for the American people. He is not taking monies from PACS, unlike Obama, Clinton, and McCain. Ralph Nader has the courage and conviction to steer this country in the right direction, by ending the illegal war and occupation in Iraq and Afghansitan, withdrawing all troops within six months, impeaching Bush and Cheney for high crimes and misdemeanors, instituting a Single Payer-Medicare For All, ending corporate welfare and abuse, raising the minimum wage to a livable wage, ending corporate personhood, repealing the Patriot Act, ending NAFTA and GATT, and on and on. It is long overdue to end the two party duopoly, and include third party candidates like Ralph Nader who represents the majority of Americans who demand real change, not empty rhetoric from the likes of Obama, Clinton and Mccain. We want to hear more from Ralph Nader, and want him on ballots across the country. Include him in all national debates, and on TV, and radio.

OK, I am a big Ralph Nader fan, and believe 199% that he has a right to run, and should if he believes he can have a positive impact, but the sort of statement I quote above is an example of the sort of over-the-top rhetoric that makes folks think Nader’s supporters are loonies with a messiah complex.

As most folks who visit here are aware, Nader is not the only candidate with courage. He is not the only anti-war candidate. He is not the only candidate with a laudable record of service to the American voter. There are several, and they are running as Greens, Libertarians, Constitutionalists and independents.

We should not try to elevate our own candidates by suggesting that the others in the race are somehow their inferiors.

  5. And don’t forget Ron Paul.

We always seem to have good ‘other’ choices…….but they get trounced by the media.

    Phil Sawyer responds:

You are so correct, Maureen. The late Eugene J. McCarthy was the nominee of the Committee for a Constitutional Presidency/McCarthy ’76 in the election year of 1976. The former United States Senator (and one of the most famous politicians in United States history) was absolutely, without question, the very best candidate. The extent of the national news media blackout (and debates exclusion) was so much that I still suspect an organized cable behind it all.

By the way, as a reminder in case anyone has forgotten, I support the Nader-Gonzalez campaign for president!

  7. I believe Nader was right on target with what he had to say in regards to the topic of impeachment, fluid and articulate as usual.

    Phil,

Do keep us posted on the Peace and Freedom Party nomination process and I hope you get elected to be a delegate for him. I do have a question, why does Nader not come out with a press release or anything on seeking the endoresment of the P&F Party and other minor parties?

  8. Thank you very much for your encouragement, Laine. I shall, indeed, keep you all posted!

Regarding your question, I will have to look into that further. I do know that Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez are actively seeking the Peace and Freedom Party of California nominations. They are not seeking the nominations of the Green Party of the United States. In states where it easier to get on the ballot by creating a new party, the new party is called the Independent Party (see Politics1.com).

  9. Did someone from the Nader campaign contact you and others within the Peace and Freedom Party?

  10. Yes. There is a very organized effort to obtain the PFP-CA nominations for Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez. I was supporting the ticket before I was contacted by the campaign, however: I had written a message supporting the Nader-Gonzalez ticket on the Fair Elections Coalition website and that got the attention of the campaign.
