Richard, this Web site is an absolute treasure of information. Until I saw this item, I never knew that Stuart Hamblen (note the correct spelling) had been the Prohibition Party nominee.
Now that I do know that, it helps explain something I heard during an interview with him: The host asked a question, but calling the famous songwriter “Stu.”
Mr. Hamblen objected strenuously to that nickname.
“Don’t call me ‘Stu.'”
One must recognize that pun to appreciate fully this true story and his presidential bid.
