More Rhode Island Candidate Filings

The list of independent presidential candidates who filed slates of presidential elector candidates in Rhode Island is: Ralph Nader, Denise McSheffrey, and Yonyuth Hongsakaphadana. These candidates now need at least 1,000 valid signatures, due September 5.

The list of unqualified parties that filed slates of presidential elector candidates in Rhode Island is (as reported yesterday): Constitution, Green, Libertarian, Socialism, Socialist, and Socialist Workers. They also each need 1,000 signatures by September 5. Any adult may circulate petitions in Rhode Island.

If all 9 petitioning candidates and groups succeed, there will be eleven presidential candidates on the Rhode Island November ballot, the most that state has ever had. The previous largest ballot Rhode Island ever had was in 2000, when 10 presidential candidates were listed.

For U.S. Senate, there are no minor party or independent candidates. For US House district 1, one independent filed; he needs 500 signatures by mid-July. For US House district 2, one Green filed; he also needs 500 signatures next month.

  1. Well, I hope Yongyuth Hongsakaphadana gets official ballot status, not that I know who he/she is or what his/her positions are. I just don’t want his/her supporters to have to write that name in, or have the poor election officials have to try to decipher all the misspellings. 🙂

  2. And good luck to voters who will be trying to decipher the difference between “Socialist” and “Socialism” (presumably Gloria LaRiva’s Party of Socialism and Liberation) on their ballot. This is the kind of confusion that doesn’t help our cause. You’d think the PSL would have done some homework before choosing the name they did.

  3. Why doesn’t PSL just use “Liberation” as a label on the ballots instead of “Socialism”?

  4. Voters should be intelligent enough to notice the spelling difference between “Socialist” and “Socialism”. It is the state’s fault for placing (unnecessarily short) limitations on the length of party names.

  5. Who is the Crocodile, may I ask ? Thank You for your support. You will be glad to know, next time I will not be a write-in Candidate, I wouldn’t want the poor election officials to have to sort through all the misspellings either. My name will be on the Ballot. If you would like to know my positions, please feel free to ask ? and it’s He 🙂

    Rgds,
    -Yonyuth A. Hongsakaphadana
