Delaware Independent Party Nominates Nader

On August 13, the Delaware Independent Party nominated Ralph Nader for president. The decision was not surprising, since that party had also nominated Nader in 2004. In 2000 it didn’t nominate anyone for president.

One-state parties that are ballot-qualified and that still haven’t formally nominated anyone for president yet (but who are expected to nominate a presidential candidate) are the New York Independence, Working Families and Conservative Parties, the Oregon Independent Party, and the South Carolina United Citizens and Independence Parties.

Delaware Independent Party Nominates Nader — No Comments

  1. Can we simply expect that the NY Conservative Party will nominate John McCain and the NY Working Families Party will nominate Barack Obama, as they normally act as a second major party ballot line 99% of the time?

Any predictions on the NY Independence Party line, Richard?

  2. Brian Moore, the Socialist Party candidate, told me that the SC United Citizens Party was going to do fusion with the Democrat Party.

  3. Since the NYIP and the MNIP merged, they should really nominate a single candidate together. They probably won’t but they should.

  4. I don’t see the Conservative Party nominating McCain; I could see them giving their line to Baldwin, with no problem; but no one, with any sense, even pretends to think McCain is “conservative”.

Not in the strictest sense of the word. But McCain is a militarist which appeals to many self-styled Conservatives

  6. If McCain is dumb enough to pick a pro-abortion VP, I doubt the NY Conservatives will nominate McCain– especially if it’s a pro-abort Catholic like Tom Ridge.

Are all of the state Working Families parties one-state parties?

Isn’t there a national Working Families Party?

  7. I consider the Working Families Party to be a nationally-organized party.

Although the South Carolina United Citizens Party did nominate Obama, they haven’t nominated presidential elector candidates yet, so until they do that, they haven’t actually nominated anyone in a legal sense. We don’t know if Obama wants the nomination. If he does, the Democratic Party needs to choose its electors first, and then the United Citizens Party (and the SC Independence Party) would need to also nominate them.

    Phil Sawyer adds:

Darrel Perry and Bob Marsten are both correct. During the primary season, Senator McCain ran a campaign in which he attemped to woo the Old Guard Conservatives, the Neo-Conservatives, and the Religious Right. It was enough for him to obtain enough delegates, evidently, to win the Republican Party nomination. The Senator is still running as a combination Old Guard/Neo-Conservative (and trying to decide between the Religious Right and the Neo-Reformers). He is a militarist, as Bob wrote. There is no question as to where John McCain is at, essentially. The real question is about where the Conservative Party of New York is at. It seems to me that they are sitting on top of a nexus, of sorts. They have a rather significant choice to make. Are they going to continue on playing patsy with the neo-con controlled GOP (and, hence, shrivel up on the vine with the Republican Pary so that both will be minor-sized parties by 2012). Or is the New York Conservative Party going to make a break with the GOP in order to maintain what is left of its principles?

By the way, thank you very, very much Delaware Independent Pary! Go Nader-Gonzalez!
