Sarah Palin Was Never Registered in the Alaskan Independence Party, but Todd Palin Was

Alaska voter registration records show that Sarah Palin has always been a registered Republican. However, Todd Palin, her husband, registered into that party in 1995 and again in 2000. However, in 2002, the year Sarah Palin ran for Lieutenant Governor, he changed his registration to independent, and has remained an independent. See this AP story.

  1. Are you now or have you ever been a member of the AAAZZZ Party ???

See the purges of open communists in the 1940s – 1950s — i.e. McCarthy type harrassment and purging.

  2. As for the Todd Palin switch, i’m guessing either NPAs can vote in Republican primaries but AKI-ites can’t, and that’s why he changed.

Also, when in doubt.. just guess that someone won’t change their party affiliation on their voter registration form.

  3. Comparing Palin to HRP (Perot) family matters damage control (Perot 1992)

    source Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“On July 16, Perot unexpectedly dropped out of the presidential race.[5] He was in a close race or even ahead in polls at the time[citation needed]. Perot eventually stated the reason was that he received threats that digitally altered photos would be released by the Bush campaign to sabotage his daughter’s wedding.[6]”

  4. Comment #2: In 1995, Alaska was still using the blanket primary: all candidates of all parties were listed on the same primary ballot (I believe they then had separate party primaries for congressional offices).

Today, for offices other than president, Alaska’s Democratic, Libertarian, and Alaskan Independence parties have a blanket primary, which is open to ANY voter. Indpendents may vote in the Republican primary.

It would be interesting to know whether Todd Palin has ever voted in the Democratic/minor party primary.

I think AK had separate party primaries in 2002, and you’re probably right: independents (NPAs) had their choice of either party’s primary.

  5. Yeah, Todd Palin almost had to have switched to NPA in order to vote for Sarah in the 2002 Lt. Governor’s primary.

Although the 2000 switch is confusing. Did Todd switch to NPA in order to vote for Steve Forbes in the caucus before switching back?

Granted, you’d think he couldn’t be AK-IP and voting in the 1996 caucuses.
