Vermont Green Party Still Fighting to Get on Ballot for President

The Vermont Green Party has not been recognized as a qualified minor party this year, because the Secretary of State felt that their paperwork in late 2007 to establish sufficient organization was too late. But the party has gathered significant evidence that it should have been recognized. As soon as the party can locate an attorney, it will bring a lawsuit which it feels will win. Thanks to Mike Feinstein for this news.

  1. is this the same former GP Santa Monica Mayor Mike Feinstein who recieved a lot of news coverage concerning his handling of a $10,000 check donated to the GP?

  2. Yup. Just one reason of many why I went Independent and left the rotting corpse of the Green Party (along with Nader’s VP Matt Gonzalez and many, many more).

Yawn. Feinstein was cleared of wrongdoing by the local District Attorney. Nice try at hijacking the thread. As for the Vermont Greens, I wish that they would have brought their case a lot earlier. It’s only a month until the election.

  4. Hijacking the thread?

There was no thread, as in a thread of ZERO comments, before joell chimed in.

You should join us and leave the Green Party too Tom. Face it, paid political hijackers have ruined it.

So far, I’m the only one who has commented on the subject of Richard’s post, which is ballot access for the Green Party in Vermont. Not Mike Feinstein and not conspiracy theories about the Green Party being “hijacked” by “paid political operatives”. So, yes, I would classify what you and joell are doing as hijacking.

Richard, was there a statutory deadline for the Vermont Greens to file their paperwork, or this just the Secretary of State’s personal interpretation?

  6. The Vermont law says the paperwork must be filed by December 31 of the odd year before the election.

  7. Actually, Mike Feinstein’s name appeared in Richard’s post, and given his reputable nature, or lack thereof, it’s fair game to question sources.

And please don’t have such a knee-jerk reaction to criticism. I was a Green Party member for 12 years, a party secretary in my county, a state coordinating committee member in California for two terms, etc. etc.

I base my judgments of the Green Party by observing the trainwreck it has become; these aren’t polemic attacks, these are observations plain to see by Matt Gonzalez, Carol Miller and many other well-respected FORMER Greens.

  8. I don’t have a knee-jerk reaction to criticism of the Green Party. In fact, I’m not in 100% agreement with the platform, and I agree with Nader’s criticism of “process mania” in the party.

However, I have a problem with the kind of smears that you and joell are perpetuating. I’ve watched saboteurs tie up Green Party email lists with all sorts of fantastical conspiracy theories about the party being taken over by agents of the Democrats. This kind of stuff is about as credible as “Hillary Clinton killed Vince Foster”.
