San Diego Publishes Ten In-Depth Essays on Electoral College — No Comments

  1. Half the votes in the States/DC having a bare majority of the Electoral College gerrymander votes = about 28-30 percent of the popular votes to de facto elect each gerrymander Prez/VP — since 1832.

Result — LOTS of leftwing / rightwing extremist Prezs and their EVIL powermadness.

See the various undeclared wars especially by such Prez MONSTERS since 1950.

Send the Electoral College to the history junkyard along with divine right of kings, slavery, etc.

Uniform definition of Elector in ALL of the U.S.A.

NONPARTISAN Approval Voting for all elected executive officers and all judges.

  2. The solution is getting back to the Constitution.

First, we shouldn’t be awarding electors on a winner-take-all basis. Yes, that decision is up to each state, but it’s that kind of voter disenfranchisement that is leading us towards a National Popular Vote.

Second, we don’t have nearly enough electors/districts. The size of the House of Representatives hasn’t changed in size since 1913 (a lot of bad changes were made that year). The districts need to be much smaller so that gerrymandering really won’t matter anymore and the votes can more accurately be represented.

The only progressive change I advocate is getting rid of plurality voting in favor of a ranking or scoring system. Almost nobody votes honestly with plurality voting because of the spoiler effect when voting 3rd party. That’s exactly what the two parties want: no competition except for each other.
