Democrats Again Ponder Changes to Presidential Nominations Rules

A commission of the national Democratic Party is meeting June 26-27 to consider changes to the national rules for nominating a president. See this story. Thanks to Politicalwire for the link. UPDATE: According to this article in The Hill, the first meeting is not expected to make any news; the group is mostly getting familiar with the history of past efforts to change the nature of the Democratic nominations process. For more information, see www.demconwatchblog.com. For a list of the 37 members of the Commission, see here. Thanks to Thomas Jones for the link to the membership. One odd aspect of the membership list is that although it has 37 members, it has no members from Texas, the nation’s 2nd most populous state.

  1. Abolish the caucuses, primaries and conventions of extremist party hacks.

Uniform definition of elector in ALL of the U.S.A.

NONPARTISAN nomination and election of all elected executive officers using Approval Voting.

  2. Thank you. Truely American representative government is safe as long as Demo Rep can simply copy and past his comments over and over and over and over and over again…

I doubt that the DNC or the RNC will change — seriously — their presidential nominating procedures. They [party leaders] will do what they think will put forth candidates that can win.

Primaries have become a tool to let some angry activists complain and back longshot candidates, before coming back to the fold, as it were.

  3. How many unaware (aka ignorant) new folks each day, week or month on this list ?

Lots of the same stuff in 1761-1775 in the American colonies before things happened starting 19 Apr 1775 — Battles of Lexington and Concord.

Nonstop indirect minority rule gerrymanders in the State regimes since 1776 and in the U.S.A. regime since 1789 — with the resulting current super-dangerous political – social- economic mess.

  4. California or some other large State should switch to a direct nominating presidential primary. Each recognized party could designate sister parties in other States whose primary results would be included in determining the winner.
