Florida Green Party Filing Fee Case Delayed

In 2008, five individuals filed in the Florida Green Party primary to run for the state legislature. Green Party leaders were unaware of these individuals before they filed, and the candidates shunned all publicity and all contacts with party activists. The suspicion grew that Republican Party activists had recruited these candidates and had paid their filing fees.

Eventually, the state chair of the Florida Green Party sued one of these candidates to determine who had paid her filing fee. The defendant-candidate was to have been deposed on July 15, 2009, but because her attorney had resigned, that proceeding is postponed for two weeks, or possibly longer, while she finds another attorney. 1. The Green Party needs more candidates – a full slate in every race across the country.

It is a good thing when, and if more former members of the two larger parties become Green Party members and run for office.

Green Party conservatives, and there have long been many, across the country, often come from one of the two larger parties.

The Florida Green Party – who I admire and support – would be well advised to be more inclusive, and diverse.

  2. I agree that the Green Party should be inclusive, but they shouldn’t just accept blindly accept warm bodies that they have no knowledge of. This person who ran in FL did not respond to inquiries from the press and the FL state party when when contacted.

In 2008 in IL, a neo-nazi tried to use a Green Party ballot line when he “clearly” held views antithetical to Green values.

  3. Finding good hearted folk whom want to get things done with in the arena of the established group while watching out for saboteurs and agents provocateur. Good luck folks.

[On the other side, Citizens moved paper mountains of Green steer manure locally and nationally in 2005 to establish internal abused veterans committees. This same mission was done in a matter of weeks, single handedly, by the former [California] Reform Party state chair in 2002. The greens, with all the hard work done for them, dropped the ball in both South Lake Tahoe and Tucson!]
