California Assemblymember Manuel Perez, a Democrat who represents Imperial County and eastern Riverside County, says in this newspaper interview that he opposes the “top-two open primary” that will be on the June 2010 ballot. He mentioned the lack of voter choices in November, if the proposal passes.
The interview appears in The Desert Sun, a Palm Springs daily newspaper that has carried commentary in favor of “top-two”, but which has so far declined to print a letter to the editor from a resident of the Palm Springs area who sent such a letter.
Most of the gerrymander party hacks in CA have NO real opposition currently in general elections.

In 2008, 4 California Assembly districts switched from either Dem to Rep, or Rep to Dem. 4 out of 80 districts isn’t great but it shows that not all districts are always completely safe for one or the other of the major parties.
Hmmm. 76 x 100 pct / 80 = 95 percent safe seat gerrymander party hacks — even in the allegedly great year of *change* to something or other.
The last time there were 3 candidates on the ballot in his district (AD 80) was in 1998 and 2000 when the blanket primary was used. It appears that the elimination of the blanket primary has resulted in fewer choices, not more.
