  1. The press release that Sen. Hebert released announcing his switch (which you can find via a link in the newspaper story which is linked above) has the following interesting quotes from the senator:

“Some politicians have told me that if I switch and become an independent, it will end my future in public service. I told them that being independent is the future of public service.”

“A check of the records at the Secretary of State’s office will show that the fastest growing political affiliation in the state is independent. Some 650,000 Louisianans are now registered as independent voters.”

  2. so, as they [state officials] were very accommodating during my 2008 anti Reform Party /weird assed Dallas ‘Deform Party’ Convention campaign ……..

In spite of my efforts, the fakey dakey Weill team got almost 500 votes, nation wide, compared to almost 20% total for Perot in 1992!

  3. While the article notes that the Louisiana House has 3 independent members, it did not mention that two were elected as independents under Louisiana’s open primary system.

  4. Louisiana candidates’ party affiliations make little difference in state and local elections, since all candidates run in the same “open primary.” Since the parties have no way of officially nominating candidates, everyone might just as well be an independent.
