At the November 2010 election Republicans won majorities in both houses of the Alabama legislature for the first time since the 19th century. Seems like the Democrats were gutless to switch immediately after the election. For their own sake.
Unless they were right-wing nut job Democrats to begin with and campaigned on that platform.
