Census Data Reveals that U.S. Has 10 State Senate Districts with More than 1,000,000 Population

For the first time in history, there are now state legislative districts in the United States with population of over 1,000,000. The 2010 census figures find eight such districts in California, and two in Texas. Those are the two most populous states, and yet each of them has a surprisingly low number of State Senators. California has 40, and Texas has 31. See this story. Thanks to Michael Warnken for the link.

  1. Pick a number for the pop/seats ratio ???

Perhaps at MOST 20,000 per seat — of your closet neighbors ???

i.e. ABOLISH THE GERRYMANDER U.S.A. SENATE

    Divide the mega States.

The party hacks in the mega State legislatures are MAJOR monarchs/oligarchs — TOTALLY power mad — almost as lunatic as the D.C. gerrymander monarchs/oligarchs.

    P.R. and App.V.

  2. In California, the ideal district size is over 900,000 so having 20% of districts 10% over the ideal before reapportionment is not to surprising. In Texas, the ideal district size is 811,000, so the two districts, one in Harris County, and the other in Tarrant and Denton counties are currently about 25% over the ideal.

If Texas and California have similar growth rates over the next decade as they did this past decade, the average senate district will be closing in on one million voters.

At the time of Wesberry v. Sanders, the most population congressional district had 950,000 persons (Dallas County, Texas). A footnote in the Harlan dissent includes the range of district populations in each State.

  3. How many ILLEGAL foreign folks (aka INVADERS) in CA and TX got counted in the gerrymander 2010 Census — besides any outer space folks in Hollywood, CA ???
