Kansas Bill Eliminating Presidential Primary in 2012 Sent to Governor

On May 20, Kansas HB 2080 was sent to the Governor. It cancels the 2012 presidential primary, in order to save money. The Governor is expected to sign it.

  1. The next step is to just auction off the Presidential election to the highest bidder. That will save the states a lot of money.

  2. One of the ways a presidential candidate can get on the ballot in Kentucky is to be on the primary ballot of twenty other states by late January. Will that even be possible in 2012?

  3. If only they would eliminate ALL publicly funded primary elections and stop making the taxpayers fund the nomination process of a private political party. A step in the right direction at least.

  4. By law, I don’t think any parties are actually “private”. Any person can join or run under any party, but they’re still exclusive entities based on ideology. Each party should take the responsibility for choosing its nominee(s) and paying for the election, should they choose to have one. If primary elections weren’t so constrained by law we might even find cheaper ways to administer them.
