Republican Nominee for U.S. House in May 24 Election Gets Court Order Barring Certification of Vote, Before Votes are Even Counted

Jane Corwin, Republican Party nominee for U.S. House in today’s special election in New York state, has obtained a court order, barring the votes from being certified until a state court judge holds a hearing about the election. See this story. Thanks to Rick Hasen for this news. This action seems very strange, since it is not apparent that anyone has complained about any problems with the conduct of the election.

  1. “Chris Grant, a spokesman for the Corwin campaign, said the court action ‘is very typical’ in such close elections. ‘We recognize the closeness of the race and we want to make sure that every legal vote is counted fairly and accurately,’ Grant said.”

That is an interesting phrase from the Buffalo News article. The Corwin campaign is getting a court order for votes that haven’t been counted yet. So how could Chris Grant know in advance that the election was a close one? So far, there has been no significant allegations let alone real instances of voter fraud that has been brought to our attention. You should only secure a court order if you think there is a fraud issue with the votes.

  2. Yeah Republicans like to throw tax payer money away on statistically insignificant issues like voter fraud.
