On August 25, the state of Arizona filed a federal lawsuit, charging that Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act violates the U.S. Constitution. IMHO, we need to revisit the 1875 SCOTUS decision Minor v. Happersett which upheld Missouri law, at the time, that only males could vote. The essence of this decision is that the Constitution does not confer any voting rights (other than those in the form of Amendments) and that the Feds can not intervene in state election laws.
