Ohio Secretary of State Issues Directive to Include “Libertarian” Label on Ballot in 2011 Elections

On September 1, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted issued a directive, telling county elections officials to print the ballot label “Libertarian” next to the names of Libertarian Party nominees for partisan city office in the November 8, 2011 elections. The directive also tells county election officials to treat the Libertarian Party as a qualified party for purposes of having observers at the polls. However, the directive says nothing about whether the Libertarian Party should be treated as a qualified party in 2011 for campaign finance purposes.

  1. How many State regimes make stuff up as they go along — aka are arbitrary LAWLESS regimes ???

    Separate is NOT equal.
Brown v. Bd of Ed 1954

  2. Yes, making it up as they go along. Especially since they stated they wouldn’t do it to start with! All delay tactics which affect minor parties. Nobody seems to know what to do with precious time or money.

  3. This confirms that the Ohio SOS is an SOB. (I think that means I’m crying XD >:-) and that’s not even talking about his total FAIL by throwing minor parties off the ballot.

  4. Ohio has the most confusing ballot access law that I have ever read! And, in my opinion, it is extremely discriminatory. There is a petition to repeal it but I don’t know how that is going. Deadline is Sept 29, 2011.

  5. #3, I could be wrong, but I don’t think the Constitution, Green or Socialist Parties nominated any candidates for partisan city office in 2011. Not many cities in Ohio have partisan city elections.

  6. What do you think the odds of the Libertarian Party actually appointing observers for the two elections?

  7. # 8 Observers? That is up to the county affiliates in the area.
    # 5 What are you talking about? What retention laws you looking at? Unless you base it on past precidents in Ohio after ballot access was changed.
    # 3 Don’t know. They don’t have any partisan local race candidates that I know of. And the law suit is the LP of OHio vs Ohio SOS.
