The biggest problem with public funding in Maine is that candidates for Governor have a VERY hard time qualifying. Under the latest law, a candidate must raise 40,000 in “seed money” to qualify, plus 3,250 donations of at least $5. Last year, Green Party candidate Lynne Williams could not raise that much money and eventually withdrew, largely because “clean elections” funds were nearly impossible to obtain.
How many voters do NOT even a penny of THEIR tax money being given to a robot party hack candidate – for attack ads that the voters find to be IN-tolerable ???
typed too quick
