New Zealand Votes to Keep Proportional Representation

On November 26, New Zealand held Parliamentary elections, and also voted on a ballot question. The ballot question asked voters if they wish to keep Proportional Representation, which has been in use in New Zealand since 1996. A majority of voters voted to keep it. See this story.

The Parliamentary election results show that the following parties have won the following number of seats in the 121-member Parliament: National 60, Labour 35, Green 13, New Zealand First 8, Maori 3, ACT 1, United Future 1. The results are not entirely final yet. The Green Party has never had such a good showing in New Zealand before.

New Zealand Votes to Keep Proportional Representation — 6 Comments

  1. NZ = an ex-Brit gerrymander regime colony.

Got P.R. in the early 1990s after a MAJOR effort.

Current P.R. system is about 95 percent accurate.

EVIL point – the EVIL parliamentary system — certain of the folks are mini-tyrants having both legislative and executive powers — carried over from the rotted U.K. regime.

  2. Why is PR apparently unthinkable for any jurisdiction in the US? Is this something decided by the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers, Bohmemian Grove or Skull-and-Bones?

  3. # 3 Obviously decided by the EVIL top leader MONSTERS of the Donkeys/Elephants.

    P.R. came along in the 1840s – repeat 1840s.

The 620,000 DEAD in 1861-1865 had ZERO effect on the MONSTERS — even though with P.R. the Civil WAR might have been avoided

    — i.e. even const amdts and State laws to stop having new slaves — see the end of slavery in the northern States in the late 1700s.

Thus now — the gerrymander communist Donkeys versus the gerrymander fascist Elephants in the gerrymander Congress and gerrymander State legislatures. NOT good.

  4. # 5 After some openly commies got elected via p.r. in some cities in the 1930s-1940s the gerrymander empire monsters struck back (see Star Wars movies) and the p.r. systems got wiped out — some by votes of the People/Electors.
