Little-Known Democratic Presidential Candidate May Have Polled Enough Votes in Louisiana for a Delegate

John Wolfe, Jr., of Chattanooga, Tennessee polled 11.83% of the vote in the March 24 Democratic presidential primary in Louisiana, according to the Secretary of State’s unofficial election returns. Four candidates were on the ballot in that primary. President Obama received 76.45%; Bob Ely received 6.57%; Darcy Richardson received 5.15%.

According to this story, Wolfe’s showing entitles him to at least one delegate. The story says he is the only person who has polled enough votes in any Democratic presidential primary this year to obtain a delegate. However, in Oklahoma, Randall Terry also received enough votes for a delegate. However, apparently Terry didn’t run any candidates for Delegate in Oklahoma.

Wolfe’s stance on issues is considered to be to the left of President Obama. Here is a web page about him.

  1. No. Just having one delegate isn’t enough to get anyone nominated from the floor.

  2. Randall Terry won 7 delegates in Oklahoma… but the DNC has barred him from having any representation at the convention. And he failed to file the paperwork in OK anyway.

Jim Rogers won 3 delegates in Oklahoma, but failed to file the paperwork so he won’t get them.

I doubt Wolfe will get the delegates he’s apparently won in Louisiana. He will also probably get thrown off the ballot in Texas and Arkansas, or at least be barred from having delegates, because he’s failed to file ANY paperwork with the FEC despite having spent far more than $5,000 on his campaign. He’s violated the party’s loyalty oath which requires a candidate’s campaign to abide by the law. The state of Tennessee is also chasing him around trying to get him to pay a $10,000 fine right now.

  3. Wolfe claims he has spent about $1,000 on his campaign, so unless there is some solid evidence he has spent more, he has not broken any laws or rules.

Whatever number Wolfe ends up being entitled to, as long as he has delegates file with the state party by 4/12, he will have them.

  4. He’s paid qualifying fees equaling $8,250.

He’s visited NH, run newspaper and radio ads there. And he ran robocalls in Louisiana.

The qualifying fees alone put him over the limit.
