Alabama Ballot Access Bill May Get Senate Vote on April 10

Alabama SB 15, which improves ballot access for minor parties and independent candidates, may receive a vote in the Alabama Senate on April 10. It was eligible for such a vote on April 3 and April 5, but it didn’t come up because of extremely lengthy debate on various other bills.

  1. SB 15 is still alive in the Alabama Senate. However, supporters of such legislation must continue to remind the Senators that we want this bill brought up and deliberated. It is not known if the Special Order Calendar of last week will carry over to Tuesday, April 10th, however in the abundance of caution, all are advised to again, before Tuesday, contact the Chair of the Senate Rules Committee, Senator Jabo Waggoner, by email
    Senator Jabo Waggoner or

and to each member of the committee listed below, insisting that this bill be brought for deliberations or placed on a new Special Order Calendar if that is what the Senate Rule requires.

Ms. Janet Von Gal, an Alabama Senate employee is willing to accept generic emails sent to her simply addressed “Dear Senator.” She will make copies of the email and place one in each senator’s mail box. Even if you have already sent an email message to the senators via her, write another one and attach it to an email to her at Janet VonGal Janet VonGal She informs me that an individually written fax can also be sent if one prefers that method. The fax number is (334) 242-8819.

We must stay on top of this bill. It is the only hope for ballot access reform in Alabama this session. Everyone, please do your part.
