Philadelphia Weekly has a very thorough story about ballot access in Pennsylvania here. The article mentions the new lawsuit (filed May 17) to end the system under which candidates whose petitions are rejected are liable of up to $100,000 in court costs. Thanks to Mark Hinkle for the link.

  1. Estimated cost to verify a petition signature — allegedly with the 2002 HAVA database stuff ???

  2. But even if the lawsuit succeeds, how likely is it that the SoS will obey the ruling?

  3. #2, the Pennsylvania Secretary of State has never been the problem. The problem has been the state court system. Fortunately, on March 26, 2012, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that Pennsylvania state courts must follow federal court decisions on ballot access. That was the case called In Re The Nomination Petition of Carl Stevenson.

  4. After 20 of years helping the CP and LP,mostly what they do is complain about Ballot Access. Most of them won’t take time on primary election day to get a few signatures.Time to quit complaining and you be the change or keep dreaming.
