On May 28, Egyptian election officials released a final, official tally for the presidential election. See the results here at wikipedia (scroll down to the end of the article). The candidate who received the most votes ended up with 24.77%, less than the unofficial tally had reported. The second-place finisher ended up with 23.66%, also less than the unofficial tally had shown. Thanks to Thomas Jones for this news.

Currently single-winner district elections attract the meanest and most aggressive males who are trying to be better than everyone else and there is just about no chance of a gender-balanced ticket.

It’s interesting to me that Shabahi, the Leftist candaite came in third, much more popular than the Egyptian media and the foreign media had given his candidacy credit for.
It will be interesting to me to see how his voters turn out in the run off. I can see the various apparachik candaites supporting the former apparachik Prime Minister, and the various Islamists candaites supporting the theocrat, but the 20% that supported Shabai are the real wild card here. Maybe they will all stay home, like the majority of voters did in this first round of presidential voting? I can not see myself being able to vote for either of the two run off candidates.
