The Washington Post’s ombudsman, Patrick B. Pexton, analyzes his newspaper’s coverage of this year’s minor party presidential nominees. He concludes that the candidates deserve more coverage than they have received.

  1. So much of the coverage of elections is on the ‘horse race’ theory of media analysis. So, basically it boils down who is ahead in the polls.

    Their was, initially, a pretty wide field in the GOP primary and sometimes their is one in the Democratic Party and that seems to be the extent that large media outlets wants to deal with more then two candidates in terms of coverage.

    Granted, their is certainly a limited amount of time, money and resources to cover EVERY single candidate that runs for president. However, the the horse race analysis seems to put the general race in two-candidate mindset.
