Maine Bill to Restrict the Voting Rights of Certain Kinds of Felons

Two Maine State Senators and eight Maine Representatives have introduced LD 573, which would amend the State Constitution. Currently Maine permits felons to vote. The amendment would remove voting rights for individuals who were sentenced to at least ten years in prison. If the legislature passes it with a two-thirds vote, then the voters would vote on it.   1. Ye rough and very tough olde England — FELONS convicted of commiting lots of major common law and *new* statutory crimes got HUNG until D-E-A-D.

    See the U.S.A. 1790 Crimes Act with its various DEATH penalty sections — enacted by the same folks who proposd the 8th Amdt — later ratified.
